Puti.
It was February and I was still trying to adjust to my new surroundings and new chapter in life, I was reading the first draft of the script for Puti. Once I had finished reading it, I knew I had to be Nika. I just had to. Thereโs an edge, darkness and just a whole heap of my alter ego that I relate to with Nika. A day after reading it, we met with Direk Mike Alcazaren- director and writer of the story. (Fun fact: he directed one of my first few TVCโs as a little girl and my Creamsilk TVC 2 years ago).
At the meeting, I learned more about Nika and got super excited to begin all preparation related to it because this was going to be the first film that I will be taking part in. In the lead up to the shooting days, we had script readings, makeup tests, film appreciation, visited a gallery, and characterization workshops. Oh and I also got my ear pierced, to add extra โoomphโ for Nika.
Filming was the best part of Puti. (Well, duh. Of course). I found it to be a very light working environment; no one gave anyone a difficult time. Everyone worked really hard and I am so proud to be part of the Puti experience. Shooting days didnโt feel like a drag because although people would be exhausted, we could still throw around jokes and enjoy the moment. It was happily surprising how fast people grew to like each other on set, I only filmed for a few days but already, I felt like I had been working with everyone for more than just a few days.
In Puti, you will see a different Jasmine. Iโm darker, edgier and far from the usual sweet/pa-pretty/kikay/paawa character. I am Nika.
Puti is an official entry for the 2013 Cine Filipino Film Festival, which will partake on June 26 - July 2. Cast includes: Ian Veneracion, Leo Rialp Lauren Young, myself, Bryan Pagala, and many quirky cameos ;) Hope to see you all there!ย
Exciting things happening this year. This is one of two independent films that I’m going to be in this coming film festival season. So blessed!! Thankful for my blessings and all your support :) Have a happy Sunday!
